The Production People’s Top Ten Moments of 2019

It’s been a fantastic year for us here at The Production People and we thought what better way to finish up 2019 than to reflect on some of the best moments we’ve had throughout the year. So I’ve taken a look back at some exciting projects we’ve been lucky enough to be involved in and have chosen our top ten. We wouldn’t get to work on such varied and interesting jobs if it weren’t for our lovely clients so a massive thank you to you all! And of course, many thanks are due to all of our incredibly talented people, without them, the magic just wouldn’t be possible.

1. Dancing with the Stars

We kicked off the year in style with the third season of Dancing with the Stars on RTÉ One.

Our Company Co-Founder and Executive Director, Deirdre Ryan, also doubles as a vision mixing extraordinaire and worked as Vision Mixer on the show. She noted how “the dedication, professionalism and good humour never faded once” on set.

We can’t wait to see the next installment of glittery ballroom magic in the New Year!

2. Brand Ambassadors

Throughout the year we have provided brand ambassadors for a number of interesting and exciting events such as working with Facebook and Accenture at the Dublin Tech Summit, working with the Clive agency at The Production Conference and helping out at the RTÉ Choice Music Prize which was broadcast live on RTÉ 2fm, from Vicar Street!

We love the fact we can provide people for such fun and varied events. Every project is unique and it certainly keeps us on our toes!

3. Red Bull World Diving Championships

Dun Laoghaire Harbour was the venue for the Irish installment of the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series.

We were delighted to have one of our people, Bob Corkey working as Director/Vision Mixer for this special Outside Broadcast.

Bob operated from a UHD1 Outside Broadcasting Truck, the world’s first totally IP truck, meaning all the onboard tech talks to itself through IP addresses, making things as efficient as possible!

4. Bloom 2019

There’s nothing like summer in the city and Bloom is as good as it gets. Every year, Bloom has attracted thousands to Phoenix Park, engaging the public in a consumer show which celebrates food, drink and horticulture.

We were delighted to have some of our people working at Bloom with RTÉ. It’s a fabulous weekend and if you haven’t already been, you have to check it out in 2020.

5. All Walks of Life

Some of our people got the opportunity to join former president, Mary McAleese out on the road as she interviewed a variety of people about their lives and beliefs, while out walking on ancient Irish pilgrimage routes.

Guests joining Mrs McAleese on her walk included actress Amy Huberman and Minister Helen McEntee. A really lovely programme to be involved in and we were delighted some of our people had a hand in the production!

6. National Ploughing Championships

Another lovely nature-themed event we were lucky enough to be involved in was the National Ploughing Championships which took place in September.

We had some fantastic production runners down in Carlow for the weekend who were helping out with RTÉ. A particularly nice part of their job was working on RTÉ weather which was broadcasting from the NPC. Members of the public even had the chance to test out their weather presenting skills for themselves!

Our brilliant production runners had a fantastic time and were delighted that they didn’t even need their wellies as the sunshine was just glorious!

7. Culture Night - Collins Barracks

Collins Barracks was the scene for RTÉ’s flagship Culture Night event, a free, family-friendly, open-air concert with performances from the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, the Kilfenora Céilí Band, spoken word and Aslan, among others.

This was a lovely event to be a part of and we’re so glad our people had the chance to be involved.

Culture Night is a fantastic initiative and if you haven’t experienced it yet, you simply must!

8. Rugby World Cup

As a massive rugby fan myself, it is of no surprise that when the Rugby World Cup came upon us, I was very excited. What’s even more exciting is that our people worked behind the scenes on live broadcasts of the Rugby World Cup matches.

Our people were right in the thick of it and without their fantastic work, we wouldn’t have been able to watch all the magic moments and the heartbreaks. So thank you to all involved! Sure there’s always the next one…

9. RTÉ On Climate: Youth Assembly

One of the largest scale projects we were involved in during the year was RTÉ on Climate’s Youth Assembly. 157 young people from all across the country gathered in Leinster House to collaborate and put together a number of climate action proposals which were presented to the Ceann Comhairle in the Dáil that day.

We had a great team of production runners working tirelessly behind the scenes to help out on this one to ensure that the big day ran as smoothly as possible. They thoroughly enjoyed working on such a fantastic and important project and were delighted to have met so many inspiring young people along the way.

10. The Late Late Toy Show

It wouldn’t be a list of our top ten moments this year without mentioning the iconic Late Late Toy Show. Every year we are lucky enough to provide staff who work so hard on the production for months in advance. It’s a massive job but it really is so enjoyable. The night of the show itself is a busy one but everyone working on the show dresses up in their Christmas gear and really gets into the Christmas spirit.

There isn’t anything else quite like it, no matter what age you are you have to admit the Toy Show makes you feel like a kid again. We already can’t wait to see what next year’s show will be like!
We had lots to chose from but I think those are some fantastic moments from 2019. It really has been a wonderful year for The Production People and we’re so grateful to our clients and staff for being so nice to work with! We know there will be even bigger and brighter thing happening in 2020.

Until then,

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Daena xx
